Rising Starz Results
It’s official, Allison McAdams is the 2010 Lompoc Rising Star! The Lompoc Civic Auditorium was the place to be on Saturday, July 24th as young artists took the stage to show off their talents at the 2nd Annual Rising Starz competition. This year’s competition had two different days of auditions and the twelve lucky ones to make the cut for Saturday’s event were: Rachel Benn, Sasha Erickson, Jacqueline Castaneda, Adrian Pizarro, Katie Folk, Emily Spears, Stephen Salvatore, Emily Hogan, Marc Canlas, Alissa Lindemann, Jocelyn Navarro and Allison McAdams.
Last year representatives from the City of Lompoc’s Parks, Recreation & Urban Forestry and Youth Network Television crowned the very first “Rising Star”, Cedric Kwon as he stole the hearts of the judges and the audience. The event was the first for both organizations and they were thrilled at the high level of talent by so many young people in the Lompoc Valley. This year was no different. The stage came alive with singers, dancers, guitar players and even a young lady dancing with multiple hoola hoops.
The most difficult part of the evening came at deliberation time where the three judges had to make the final decision of who to crown as the 2010 Lompoc Rising Star. City Councilmember Bob Lingl, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Beverly Kennedy and Youth Theater Director Joyce Mayhew added up the scores and came to a conclusion. After much discussion, it was unanimous that the title went to Allison McAdams for singing, “A Love That Will Last”. The top musical award went to Alissa Lindemann for her guitar and singing performance of “Use Somebody” and the top dance award went to Marc Canlas for his breakdancing performance.
