Snap a photo that will last a lifetime with Clayton Fogle By Haley Ellis, Recreation Supervisor
Lompoc Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Department would like to take this opportunity to highlight an instructor who offers services for Lompoc Valley community members. Clayton Fogle is a professional photographer who instructs the Digital Photography class offered at the Anderson Recreation Center. These programs allow the photography enthusiast or the novice photographer some direction on how to take great photos as well as how to use various cameras and computer programs.
Clayton is currently contracted by the City of Lompoc Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Department to provide class that allows community members the opportunity to explore the digital photography world. In addition to his eight-week Digital Photography class, he will be introducing excursions for the Spring 2011 season, January through April. Clayton holds a B.A. and M.Sc. Degree from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA, and a Certificate in Digital Multimedia from Technology Development Center, Ventura, CA. He earned his teaching credentials at California State University Long Beach.
For ten years he was an instructor at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Palos Verdes, CA, where he was responsible for redesigning and teaching the Photography and Video Production curriculum. He also taught an Introduction to Digital and Film Photography class at Santa Barbara City College from 1999-2005, adult and teen photography classes at Manhattan Beach Cultural Art Center from 2000-2008, and has taught Hummingbird photography workshops in Ramsey Canyon, Arizona annually since 1978.
In 2008, he moved to northern California, where he is authoring a serious of lectures on wildlife and travel, and teaching photography workshops.
Prior to becoming a full-time educator, he was a staff photographer for 18 years at a Santa Barbara research firm where he was responsible for scientific/industrial movies, videos, and still photography.
He is a regular guest speaker and workshop instructor in the Los Angeles area and at Ramsey Canyon Inn in Arizona, where the study of hummingbirds has become his lifelong obsession. Additionally, he has been a guest speaker for many natural history museums and national organizations, including the National Audubon Society.
Clayton’s photography has taken him around the world. As Professor of Photography in 1999 aboard the SS Universe Explorer for the University of Pittsburg Semester At Sea, he traveled around the world in 90 days and photographed 11 countries.
The Digital Photography class is an eight-week course that provides basic instructions on how to use a digital camera and output the picture to a photo quality printer. Participants will get hands-on experience and instruction on shooting indoors under various lighting conditions with and without flash. Outdoor shooting will emphasize available light and flash-fill of people, lines, shapes, and textures. Students also will learn how to download photos, print, and save them for future use. Material fee is payable to the instructor the first day of class. Material fee will cover 4x6 prints and DVD storage of photographs from students’ memory cards.
