Wastewater Plant Upgrade Groundbreaking

Posted: January 22, 2007

Update March 2007:

The City of Lompoc Wastewater Division celebrated a ground breaking ceremony to kick off the construction of treatment plant's upgrade project. The 27 month construction project is the product of 6 years planning and designing of the upgrade to the existing wastewater treatment plant. The upgrade will improve treatment reliability and allow the plant to meet new, stricter discharge requirements.

The ground breaking activities included a speech by City of Lompoc Mayor Dick DeWees about the value of clean water, a speech by City Administrator Gary Keefe reliving the history of wastewater treatment in Lompoc and a review of the upgrade project status and schedule by Wastewater Superintendent Susan Halpin. Members of Lompoc City Council, Lompoc Utility Commission, Vandenberg Village Community Services District and Lompoc City staff symbolically turned the first shovels of dirt. Parsons RCI, construction contractor, provided the refreshments to round out the event.

Parsons is continuing mobilization through the end of March. Foundation work for the new biological treatment units - oxidation ditches - will be some of the first work started.
