In this third month of construction, much of the excavation for the new oxidation ditches has been completed, rock stabilization has been installed at the base of this excavation and the first concrete pours of the slabs which form the floors of the tanks have been completed.
Concrete pours have continued on the structure for the new grit handling facility . The dark rust colored vertical sheet piles seen behind the grit facility concrete and rebar will be removed soon and the area back filled. Installation of the stone columns in the locations where the new secondary clarifiers will be constructed is continuing.
These drilling rigs compact stone gravel into underground columns. These columns will provide stability to structures constructed above them during seismic events. On the 12th of June, exactly 3 months after construction started, the 24 inch steel line carrying primary effluent to the biotower was hit by an excavator and punctured causing the excavation to flood.
Construction contractor Parsons and City Wastewater personnel worked together energetically to clear the excavation and repair the line . Despite the plant being completely shut down for nearly 4 hours, not a drop of sewage was spilled and the plant was successfully brought back on line.
