Wastewater Plant Upgrade Groundbreaking

Posted: December 7, 2007

Update October/November 2007:

Work has been occurring across the construction site. The Tertiary Treatment Unit over-excavation has been completed, drain lines installed

foundation and wall concrete poured

and the tertiary effluent pipe is installed to the Filter/UV building

The slab has been poured for the UV disinfection treatment unit channels

At the head of the upgraded plant, concrete rebar and forms have been installed for more concrete pours at the grit removal unit

Construction started on the Oxidation Ditch inlet structure

and many of the internal walls of the oxidation ditches were poured

The new secondary clarifiers have started to take shape. In early October, work on the tank floors began

while in November, many of the tank walls were formed up and poured

Now that more of the plant site is being backfilled and brought back up to finished elevation, installation of all the required electrical equipment and vaults is picking up.

Towards the end of November, the new Dissolved Air Floatation Thickener center column forms were put in place

In mid-November, City Wastewater Division staff shutdown all flow through the plant to allow for the contractor (Parsons) to install 2 bulkheads which will be needed to provide access for future work

And finally, City staff got to put into service for the first time a new component of the upgraded plant when sludge was pumped through new pipe from the lagoon to the sludge drying bed

Check back again in January to see what happened in December.
