Wastewater Plant Update

Posted: January 22, 2007

Update December 2007:

Installation of the yard piping for the 30 inch secondary effluent line from the new secondary clarifiers to the soon-to-be-modified aeration basin continued

This line will carry treated secondary effluent from the clarifiers to a new flow equalization (EQ) basin. This EQ basin will be retrofitted from the existing aeration tank. Peak secondary flow will be "shaved" into this basin, then pumped out when plant flows naturally decrease. This pumped flow will head downstream to the new tertiary treatment unit.

The last external wall of the oxidation ditches was poured

and backfilling around the secondary clarifiers 2 and 3 continued

while the last wall was poured on secondary #1

Other work at the secondaries included forming up the RAS pump structures and getting them poured as well

Many of the internal structures for the grit removal units were constructed

Electrical work progressed across the construction site including ongoing installation of conduit at the new electrical building and conduits at the Filter/UV treatment unit

As work has been winding up on the oxidation ditches and secondaries, activities have moved over to the dissolved air floatation units - which will thicken the waste biological solids from the oxidation ditches - and the odor control biofilter units - which will scrub foul air from the DAFs.

Major construction activites took the holidays off which allowed maintenance crews access to the hard-working equipment, such as on one of the 110 ton crane.

Check back again in February to see what happened in January.
